As reported here, Valentino has signed a license agreement for fragrances and beauty products.
The licensee is L’Oreal. Before, fragrances were licensed to Puig Beauty & Fashion Group S. L. with labels like Valentino Donna, Valentino Uomo, and Valentina.
The territory is worldwide. The license will start January 2019.
According to various news reports, Borsalino Giuseppe & Fratello S.p.A.is insolvent and will be liquidated after a court decision on Monday. Supposedly the brand is not affected.
A few years ago Hereas Equity acquired the now 160 years old company The purchase price was given at €20 Mill., and Hereas Equity claims to have invested €10 Mill. in sales and marketing.
The brand is famous worldwide, partially due to the classic movie with the same title. In Spring 2017 the Italian government issued a Borsalino postal stamp.
In May 2017, Heras Equity claims, to have bought back the Borsalino trademarks from a bank for €18 Mill. Prior those trademarks had been sold in a sale-leaseback transaction.
The total investment would have been €48 Mil., with annual revenues of ~€17 Mill.
According to Hereas Equity the production is in liquidation. The trademarks, sales and shipments are supposed to continue.
Elie Tahari has signed a brand license for sleepwear and intimates.
The licensee is IHL Group, the license runs for six years.
The collection will launch at retail in July 2018.
TOM TAILOR signed a brand license for kidswear.
The new licensee is Kids Fashion Group, the license runs for 10 years.
Prior to the license, kidswear has been handled in-house. KFG is taking on the staff along with the license.
Launch will be spring 2018.
KFG has already 14 brands and licenses, including Belly Button, Kanz, Pampolina, Döll and Steiff.
As reported here, Lucky Brand signed a license for men’s shoes.
The licensee is Genesco, product launch this fall.
The collection includes Chelsea boots, hikers, wingtips and suede chukka boots, designed to match Lucky Brand’s denim collection and its recently launched men’s suit collection.
Genesco markets brands such as Johnston & Murphy, G.H. Bass & Co., among others.
Belstaff is reported to have signed a brand license for eyewear.
The licensee is Imatta, the license runs for 10 years, the territory is worldwide. Distribution is planed via Belstaff stores, department stores, fashion and travel retail, and independent optical boutiques.
Launch of the collection will be Spring, it features 36 styles, half sunglasses and half optical frames. Retail prices range from $325 to $425.
G-III Apparel Group announced an additional DKNY brand license for PVH Corp.
The category is menswear including sport, the territories are the USA and Canada.
PVH has licensed rights for men’s sportswear, menswear, dress shirts, neckwear, and jeans.
The first collections will launch in spring 2018 and will be sold in department stores.
This agreement is the fourth partnership between G-III and PVH. The companies have multi-year license agreements for various product categories under PVH’s CALVIN KLEIN and Tommy Hilfiger brands and for men’s sportswear under G-III’s G.H. Bass brand.
The classic British motorcycle brand BSA has announced licensees for leather goods, apparel, scale models, and more.
7 Vision is the licensee for leather goods and an apparel collection in the U.K.
WSI Models will create a line of BSA M21 scale models, available in BENELUX.
Vision Eleven has signed on for an apparel range of adult knit and woven tops, jersey and fleece, cold- and warm-weather headwear, socks, underwear, and light outwear for the U.S. and Canada.
Burberry has announced to license its perfume and cosmetics again.
Originally a brand license was held by Inter Parfum SA. Then Burberry took the business in-house. The new licensee is Coty Inc.
There are quite a few fashion/apparel brands, which have tried to run the beauty business on their own. Escada is an example, Balmain a more recent one. But the perfume and cosmetics business is very different from apparel or fashion.
Similar to watches and eyewear, HBA is a prime example for licenses.
Like many fashion designers before him, Karl Lagerfeld has signed a licensing agreement for hotels, resorts, and residences.
The licensee is Brandmark Collective BV.
